The History Of The Refinery: The Somerset Refinery is one of the oldest continuously operating companies in Pulaski County, Somerset, Kentucky. Although the company has supplied gasoline, diesel, heating oil and other crude oil products since 1932, its roots may be traced to 1898 when Captain Geary supervised the construction of a crude oil pipeline from Monticello, Kentucky to Somerset, Kentucky and on to Hamlin, West Virginia. A few years later, Cumberland Pipeline Company purchased this system which thrived until a shortage of crude oil forced operations to cease in 1928. Transportation: Somerset is in a unique geographic position to market gasoline. Somerset is in the middle of a distribution circle with five major terminal located at the outside of this circle. We are able to take our product out then go to the terminals to buy product to return to our home base. Louisville, Lexington, Catlettsburg, Knoxville and Nashville are at the outside of the 150 mile radius around Somerset. Buying from all of these various terminal will allow us to pick the lowest combination of freight and product cost to keep Somerset in a top competitive position at all times.
